Present Role:

Administrative:

Medanta Medicity is a 1500 bed, one of the largest super-specialty hospitals of the country. The hospital is JCI accredited and is one of the most respectable hospitals of the region. My work is in the Institute of Neurosciences in close collaboration with Neurosurgery, Neurology and Neuroanaesthesia. The Neurointervention team consists of 2 full time Senior consultants and 2 fellows along with the necessary supporting technical, nursing, and managerial staff. I am administratively responsible for the functioning of entire unit and actively involved in the necessary equipment purchase and managing with various service providers.

I am also actively involved with the neurointervention team at various other Medanta hospital sites like Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Indore and have played a significant role in establishing, guiding, and ensuring that highest quality care is administered to the patients.

Clinical Work:

I specialise in treatment of vascular disorders of brain and spine. We treat more than 1000 patients annually out of which approx. 250 are major neurointervention procedures like brain aneurysm coiling, stroke thrombectomies, stenting and AVM embolization. The area of expertise is in brain aneurysms and stroke treatment. Treatment of degenerative spine diseases with epidural and transforaminal nerve blocks and facet blocks is also routinely performed.

I am the proctor for all the emerging new technologies like Flow divertor, Web device, Contour device not only in India but in entire South east Asia, China, Australia and USA. The personal experience of flow divertor is in more than 700 cases and is one of the largest numbers in the country. The concept of intraarterial vasodilation in vasospasm was first introduced in the entire country by the unit under my guidance.

We are part of the first responder team for stroke service with more than 700 stroke cases annually. The unit is involved in care from assessment to imaging and treatment of acute stroke. I introduced the concept of CT perfusion in stroke care in India. The extracranial stenting and intracranial stenting also contributes to the team experience.

Academic:

The institute is recognised by Diplomate national board (DNB) and I am the guide and teacher of several neurology and neurosurgery residents. I am working in association with professional Indian societies to impart the latest neurointervention teaching to doctors across the country. We have pioneered the concept of centre of excellence training and we conduct on-site training sessions with live cases, simulator, and model- based training.
